Async, a newly opened cocktail bar on New York City's Lower East Side, offers a unique experience by translating China's diverse regional flavors into innovative drinks. Located behind the Ningbo-focused restaurant YongChuan, Async's menu—crafted by Shanghai's Epic Bar head bartender Droveen Zhang—features nine cocktails, each inspired by a different Chinese region. Guests receive a suede scroll menu doubling as a map of China, guiding them through offerings like the Silk Road Negroni from Xinjiang, the spicy Hunan-influenced Spicy Madame, and the jasmine tea-infused Jasmine Breeze from Fujian. The bar's minimalist design includes a ceiling with LED panels that mimic the Northern Lights, enhancing the immersive atmosphere. Async not only introduces patrons to China's cocktail culture but also complements its drinks with regional dishes such as Peking duck tacos and seaweed popcorn chicken, providing a comprehensive culinary journey.
