Former Vatican chef’s SoHo eatery participating in NYC Restaurant Week

Chef Salvo Lo Castro, of Casasalvo on Spring Street in SoHo, spent 10 years at the Vatican and cooked for two popes. The food at his eatery is Sicilian-Mediterranean.

Chef Salvo Lo Castro, who spent a decade cooking for Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI at the Vatican, is participating in NYC Restaurant Week at his SoHo eatery, Casasalvo. Running from July 20 to August 16, the city-wide summer promotion will feature Lo Castro's Sicilian-Mediterranean cuisine, including a special "gnocchi di Papa Benedetto" inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s favorite potato dish. With prix fixe menus offered at $30, $45, and $60, the chef views the event as a vital opportunity to welcome new guests to his recently opened Spring Street restaurant and share his unique culinary history.
