Apple TV is developing American Comfort, a soul food restaurant comedy inspired by the life of James Beard Award-nominated restaurateur and chef Melba Wilson. Written and executive produced by black-ish creator Kenya Barris, the series stars Oscar and Emmy nominee Danielle Brooks as Melba, the owner of a legendary Harlem soul food landmark. The highly competitive project brings together a powerhouse executive producing team that includes Oprah Winfrey, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, and Wilson herself, highlighting the heart, humor, and hospitality that transformed a neighborhood eatery into a 20-year cultural institution.
