Will there be enough room, and demand, for all of them?
Midtown Manhattan is experiencing a surge in high-end omakase offerings this fall as three acclaimed chefs open luxurious, multi-concept sushi destinations in the neighborhood. Midwestern import Mako brings an intimate 12-seat, $350-per-person refined tasting experience to Shaver Hall, while chef Yoshihiko Kousaka's 14-seat Kumiko Room at One Bryant Park offers a $325 traditional menu focused heavily on classic nigiri over extensive small plates. Completing the trio is three-Michelin-starred chef Masahiro Yoshitake's Sushi Yoshitake inside Simon Kim’s 550 Madison development, creating a competitive yet exclusive landscape for fine Japanese dining in the heart of the city.
