If you're traveling through New York and looking for a mind-bendingly great meal, head to Park Slope, Brooklyn, for a meal by Jay Kumar at his restaurant LORE. I promise you won't be disappointed. The Indian-born, Oman-raised, Basel-trained culinary genius has mastered the art of fusion in a way that brings every step of his life's story into his food for the most amazing, tasty results. But as much as I love a good meal, I love good people and good watches as much, if not more. And if you're like me, LORE will feel even more like home.

More often than not, you'll see Kumar meandering through the restaurant, playing the perfect mix of engaging host and culinary master. Connecting with people is something that is super important for Kumar. But it's also a natural skill that has led to his success in the industry but also to the love of his life, the art curator Daria Brit Greene, his now wife who brought him to Brooklyn. Here, he's honed a menu that bridges his personal heritage with Brooklyn-inspired Caribbean dishes like jerk chicken with coconut basmati rice.
