The team that brought Sri Lankan cooking to the Upper East Side at the sleeper hit Lungi crosses the bridge bringing pan-Indian cuisine to Astoria in a 5,000-square-foot space that will exude the high-energy of India’s restaurants and bars. Ghungroo is the Hindi term for small metallic bells strung together to form a musical anklet, which alone says something about the concept. People popping pani puri’s, chaats on each table, bowls of biryani for sharing and a menu that encompasses grill and tandoor cooked foods. The cocktails will be a major part of the restaurant bringing Bollywood excitement to the Astoria streets.
